West Lancashire College recently hosted Employability Week, a fantastic initiative to highlight the importance of developing key skills, building confidence and preparing students for success in the world of work.

Throughout the week, the Learner Experience team were on hand to support students with their CV’s, covering letters, interview preparation and job applications, as well as hosting a job shop with live vacancies.

As part their employability preparation, students attended Essential First Aid training from St John Ambulance, where they learnt about recognising the signs of serious conditions, performing CPR, managing bleeds and injuries, handling emergencies involving unconsciousness or seizures, as well as personal safety and hygiene.

A wide variety of other activity took place across the college including a visit from Liverpool John Moores University who provided Health students with a Clinical Skills masterclass, and Toby Barrett, Climate Change Officer at West Lancashire Borough Council, spoke to Engineering students about climate change, the race to net zero, sustainability and how engineers can contribute to the design of the systems that improve the environment.

Students also discovered how to progress to an Apprenticeship or a Degree Apprenticeship from Cath at Lancashire Work Based Learning Forum, which is a fantastic pathway for many subject areas.

Dawn Hughes, Events, Campaigns and School Liaison Manager said, “Employability Week is more than a celebration of future careers, it reflects our commitment as a college to equip every student with the skills, confidence and opportunities they need to succeed. We don’t just prepare learners for exams; we prepare them for life beyond the classroom, striving to ensure that each individual leaves us with a clear, supported pathway into a fulfilling and successful career.”
