For the third year running, West Lancashire College hosted Summer Science Festival for a number of Year 9 and Year 10 high school students.

Summer Science Festival offered an exciting opportunity for local young people to expand their scientific knowledge and gain an appreciation of the importance that science plays in all aspects of our lives, as well as finding out about possible future careers in STEAM subjects that they may not have previously imagined.

The event involved inspirational talks, including keynote speakers from Professor Craig Jackson, Stuart Allen, Andrew Higham, and Thomas Nguyen. Students also participated in a range of fantastic science and engineering activities aimed to pique their interest in the vast range of careers available.

Along with keynote speakers, a number of companies participated in the delivery of the day, hosting a variety of activities and workshops including Ibstock, NSG Group, Everton in the Community, Peel Ports, CRP Subsea, Keepmoat Homes, Edge Hill University, HCRG Care Group, Hurlston Hall, West Lancashire Borough Council, FMCG International and Wonder Dome. In addition, college tutors also put on a range of fabulous activities including a crime scene, arts workshop, and science master class. The school pupils were fully engaged throughout the sessions and gave some amazing feedback.

Dawn Hughes, Careers & Learner Experience Manager said, “we would like to thank all the companies who supported our event through the delivery of some fabulous workshops and master classes, and to our inspirational keynote speakers. Special thanks to Ibstock and FutureU who kindly sponsored Summer Science Festival. We hope all students had an enjoyable time at the Summer Science Festival and we look forward to seeing everyone for Summer Science Festival 2024!”
