Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Advocacy in the Workplace Level 2I completed two online courses at West Lancashire College: the first was Mental Health First Aid, and the second was Counselling. I registered for the Mental Health First Aid course after seeing it advertised on Free Courses Online. Following initial contact, I explained my interest in the course, and my details were passed to West Lancashire College. The college team then provided information about what to expect from the course, the timeframe, tutor contact details, and the start date. The tutor for Mental Health First Aid was extremely helpful, and I was supported well with my dyslexic needs. Before each unit’s submission date, I would send my completed work to the tutor for review and feedback to ensure it met the required criteria. West Lancashire College has been very understanding and accommodating of my needs, and I would recommend their courses to anyone. For the Counselling course, the tutor contacted me before the course began to explain the college’s expectations. I received constructive feedback for each unit, highlighting areas for improvement before final submission. My tutor was particularly supportive when I requested an extension and ensured I felt confident and supported throughout. Completing both the Counselling and Mental Health First Aid courses has broadened my perspective and encouraged me to explore different career opportunities.

Understanding Mental Health First Aid Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace Level 2After 37 years as a healthcare professional, I became increasingly aware that there is often not enough help, guidance and signposting available for people experiencing mental health challenges. This motivated me to improve my skills and deepen my knowledge of this important subject so that I could better support those around me, both in my professional role and in my personal life. The course was well structured and easy to follow, allowing me to learn effectively and absorb the information with confidence. Kelly was an amazing tutor and, although I did not need to seek support very often, it was reassuring to know that guidance was available whenever needed. The course has strengthened my understanding of mental health and enhanced my ability to provide informed support and guidance to others.

Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Advocacy in the Workplace Level 2I work for Lancashire County Council as a Community Project Officer, supporting residents and helping communities grow social capital. I am also the thematic lead for mental health. To ensure I could fulfil my role effectively, I looked for relevant courses and found some that were free and online, so I enrolled. The process was straightforward, and the workbooks were easy to follow in bite-sized sections. I was assigned a tutor who provided feedback and kept me on track when I fell behind. Initially, I was hesitant about an online course, but I found that learning in shorter sessions was more effective than a full day of study. I would recommend West Lancashire College to anyone considering this pathway.

Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Advocacy in the Workplace Level 2In late December 2022, I completed the online Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Advocacy in the Workplace. The course was incredibly informative and easy to navigate, and the tutor was always quick to respond to any queries I had. Once each unit was submitted, marking and feedback were provided promptly, along with useful guidance for improvement and suggestions for further reading. My experience was extremely positive, and the staff made my learning journey as smooth as possible. In fact, I have continued onto another online course and fully intend to continue my studies with West Lancashire College. I can honestly say this has been one of the best educational experiences I have had.
