Arts and Crafts

The course will begin on Wednesday 26th March 2025 from 2pm until 4pm.

There are no entry requirements for this course as it is open to all individuals who are interested in learning and practicing arts and crafts.

If you successfully complete this course, students will be equipped with the skills and confidence to pursue arts and crafts independently and continue their creative journey.

Introduction to Arts and Crafts

• Overview of arts and crafts
• Importance of creativity and self-expression
• Exploring different materials and tools

Drawing and Sketching

• Basic drawing techniques
• Understanding lines, shapes and shading
• Creating sketches and detailed drawings

Painting Techniques

• Introduction to various painting mediums (watercolour, acrylic and oil)
• Colour theory and mixing
• Techniques for creating texture and depth
• Painting landscapes, still life and abstract art

Sculpting and Clay Modelling

• Basics of sculpting with clay
• Techniques for hand-building and shaping
• Creating figurines and other sculpture
• Introduction to other sculpting materials (e.g., paper mache and plaster)

Crafting with Paper

• Techniques for paper crafting (e.g., origami and paper quilling)
• Creating cards, decorations and 3D paper art
• Using different types of paper and adhesives

Textiles Arts and Crafts

• Basics of sewing and embroidery
• Techniques for creating textile art (e.g., fabric painting and tie-dye)
• Making simple garments, accessories and home décor items

Jewellery Making

• Introduction to jewellery making tools and materials
• Techniques for beadwork, wire wrapping and metalworking
• Creating necklaces, bracelets, earrings and other accessories

Mixed Media and Collage

• Exploring mixed media techniques
• Combining different materials for collage art
• Creating unique and texture art pieces

Creative Project Development

• Planning and executing personal art projects
• Techniques for refining and finishing art pieces
• Displaying and sharing completed projects

Practical Application and Continuous Practice

• Hands-on practice sessions with guidance from instructors
• Interactive activities and collaborative projects
• Continuous assessment to track progress and understanding

If you successfully complete the Arts and Crafts course, there are opportunities to progress on to higher levels of learning or further, developmental courses within the college. Alternatively, this may be used to enhance current or future employment/opportunities for employment in a variety of sectors.

Adult Funding Changes

Due to changes in Government funding from 1st August 2019, students who resident in some postcodes in Merseyside and Greater Manchester may be unable to access funding from training providers and colleges in Lancashire and may have to pay all associated course and support costs.
