Inclusive Learning

The inclusive programmes are delivered by our professional qualified and specialist LDD staff who am to install self belief and confidence in our students. Students joining the programme will also attend tutorial which covers a range of themed topics throughout the year aimed at broadening awareness and encouraging independence.

This learner-centred approach uses the college setting to provide pathways to further study. Our Independent Living diploma is suitable for those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

Aspire Entry Level 3 Programme

Aspire Entry Level 3 Programme course has been designed for 16-19 students to help you develop a wide range of knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Neil Farrell

Head of Curriculum for Creative Service Industries

Having studied Sport and Exercise Science through college and university, I began my career in the sport and active leisure industry before moving into the education sector. During my time at West Lancashire College, I have managed a wide breadth of Curriculum areas and different types of learning provision. This has included 16-18 provision, adult education, apprenticeship provision, Higher Education, community learning programmes through to provision for adults and young people with SEND. I strongly believe that education has the power to transform lives and that everyone should have access to high quality educational opportunities.

Additional Learning Support & High Needs Manager

The inspiration for being in my current role as Additional Learning Support and High Needs Manager, is the young people and adults I come across every day. I feel privileged to be able to support them alongside a committed team of support staff, to enable those with barriers to learning to overcome these, to inspire a belief in themselves and become successful and make positive progress towards their employment aspiration and career goals, life and independence aims. Every one of the young people and adults who work with my team is different and the challenge is to tailor support plans to meet their individual needs. Everything we do focuses on inclusivity and equal opportunity. No day is the same and after 16 years I remain as committed to the role as I was on day one.

Coordinator and Tutor for Inclusive learners and Supported Interns

Within my time at West Lancashire College, I have participated in a variety of roles to ensure that I am equipped with as much knowledge about the college as possible. I currently work in the Inclusive Learning team and provide support for the Supported Internship Programme. I develop our students skills and knowledge to enable them to progress into the world of work or voluntary work within the local community. I am also a trained first aider and Mental Health first aider.

Katie Hampson

Inclusive Learning Lecturer

As a college lecturer at West Lancashire College, I coordinate and design outstanding curriculum for learners with special educational needs (SEN) and behaviour, emotional and social difficulties (BESD). I hold a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training from Edge Hill University, and I have over 15 years of experience within the education sector. My core competencies include specialist education, empathy, teamwork, communication and organisational skills, adaptability, flexibility, and management. In my current role, I deliver quality knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) to enhance and support individual learning outcomes. I create strong intent, implementation, and impact for maximum success of all learners, embedding Cognitive Stimulation Therapy. I work with colleagues and local communities to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment. I am passionate about helping learners overcome their challenges and achieve their potential. I am a member of the 'Institute of Leadership and Management', bringing diverse perspectives and experiences to the team, and I coach and mentor aspiring leaders within the NCG Leadership hub.

Towards Independence Course Leader

I have been working for West Lancashire College for 18 years, predominantly teaching in the Inclusive Learning department. What inspires me everyday is the progress that the learners make and the impact that this has on them when they are at home, out in the community, and for some at work . Its great to receive such positive feedback about this from learners themselves, together with their parents/carers.
