As part of the College’s induction programme, Loudspeaker, an empowering organisation dedicated to encouraging young people to use their voice, delivered a purpose-built workshop designed to bring the NCG Guarantee to life for students. Through a range of interactive activities, teamwork exercises, discussions and reflective tasks, students explored how the NCG Guarantee related to their own college journey and future success.

The NCG Guarantee is a unique programme aimed to give students access to additional activities, resources and initiatives to help them achieve their ambitions and career goals, and is centred around Employability, Community, Enterprise, Mental Fitness and Digital. Throughout their time in college, students at West Lancs will be involved in a range of projects and initiatives focused on these principles, all aimed to equip them with skills to help set them up for their future.

The workshop introduced the NCG Guarantee in a clear, engaging and memorable way, helping students gain a better understanding of the opportunities and support available to them throughout their time at college. Students were encouraged to consider how making the most of these opportunities could contribute to their personal development, achievement and future aspirations.

Matthew Powell from Loudspeaker said, “I spent two days at West Lancashire College and, although I come here every year, this week felt special. On behalf of Loudspeaker, I delivered four sessions to around 700 students all about their NCG Guarantee, exploring the importance of community, digital, enterprise, employability and mental fitness alongside their studies, and the vibes were immaculate! Every student got stuck in, pushed themselves outside of their comfort zone and even took part in a dance-off. I love coming to the College and can’t wait to return.”

The sessions also helped students to build friendships and connections with their peers, fostering a sense of belonging from the start of their college experience. In addition, the activities promoted positive attitudes towards attendance and participation, highlighting the importance of engaging fully with college life.

The College’s work with Loudspeaker forms an important part of the NCG Guarantee, equipping students with the skills they need beyond their courses to prepare them for their next steps. By introducing the workshops, the College ensures that students are supported not only academically, but also in becoming confident, responsible individuals who can contribute positively to their communities and navigate real-world challenges with resilience and understanding.

Wendy Bennett, Assistant Principal of West Lancashire College, said, “We were delighted to welcome Matt and Jonathan from Loudspeaker to introduce our students to the NCG Guarantee. Through their engaging, energetic and thought-provoking workshops, students gained a clear understanding of the opportunities available to them beyond the classroom and how the NCG Guarantee can help them develop valuable employability skills, broaden their experiences and achieve their personal goals. The sessions inspired learners to think beyond their qualifications, embrace new opportunities and take ownership of their personal development. It was a fantastic way to launch the NCG Guarantee and motivate our students to make the most of everything college life has to offer.”
