Staff and students from across West Lancashire College participated in the 2024 Brit (The British Inspiration Trust) Challenge this week where they participated in some fabulous activities.

The Brit Challenge is a collaborative charity who encourages universities, colleges, specialist colleges and Students' Unions to embrace the challenge as an opportunity to raise funds for local, regional, and national charities, as well as improve mental health, fitness & wellbeing and reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness amongst young people.

The BRIT challenge is inclusive and enables students and staff of all abilities to take part and work as a team. Students from across the college took part in a range of activities including; Carpentry and Joinery students created 24 birdboxes, Beauty Therapy students provided 24 hand and arm massages, Electrical students created an illuminated sign with the number 24, Engineering students enjoyed a 24 minute guitar session, Hairdressing students conducted 24 bespoke colour mixtures, Inclusive Learning students planted 24 sunflowers to give out to staff members, Sports students completed 24km on the treadmill, lifted 24,000kg in weight and cycled 24km and our Motor Vehicle students had 24 seconds to remove and refit 1 wheel in a team of 3 for the gun, bolt and tyre!

Gareth Sutton, Vice Principal said, “this is the second year the college has taken part in the BRIT Challenge. Supporting young adult mental health has never been more important, so we were delighted for staff and students from across the college to take part, enjoy themselves and help to make a difference by raising funds for future initiatives to support young people’s mental health. Well done to everyone involved.”
