If you’re an adult looking to pursue your dream of becoming a nurse, paramedic, midwife, or another health care professional, West Lancashire College can help you to take the next step. Our Access To Higher Education course is designed to open the door to university and your bright future in the Health Care sector.
Access to Higher Education courses are designed for adults returning to education, wanting to progress to university, but may not yet have the qualifications to do so.
The college’s one-year Access To Higher Education Diploma (Health & Social Care), awarded by Open Awards, will provide you with the foundations needed to prepare for university study. As a student on the course, you will explore topics such as human biology, anatomy and physiology, genetics, and the health and social care provision. In addition, you will develop essential academic writing and research skills to ensure you are ready for degree-level study.
Alumni student Sarah said, “I’ve always dreamed of becoming a Midwife, so I chose the Access programme to get me back into education and to allow me to apply for University. I really enjoyed my time at the college, I met lots of new people, learnt so many new skills, and had a refresh on how to write academically. My tutors were great, and I’m now studying BSc (Hons) Midwifery at Edge Hill University. I’m looking forward to continuing my journey to becoming a qualified Midwife.”
West Lancashire College has been successfully delivering Access courses for over 30 years and consistently achieves a 100% offer rate for students applying to university. Their alumni includes a vast range of qualified professionals including midwives, nurses, mental health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, children’s nurses and learning disability nurses. Many of the alumni students return to the college to share their journeys to inspire current students.
