John Togher

English Lecturer

I am the Course Leader for GCSE English and have worked at West Lancashire College for 14 years. As a published writer, I am passionate about helping young people develop a strong understanding of how language works, not only for their GCSE studies but also for everyday life, whether communicating in person or online. I am equally passionate about nurturing creativity and helping learners find their voice. By developing their communication, analytical, and creative skills, I aim to give students the confidence and tools they need to express themselves effectively and succeed in their future studies, careers, and personal lives.

Nicole Judge

English Lecturer

I have taught at West Lancashire College for the past 10 years, delivering GCSE English and Functional Skills English to a diverse range of learners. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I have worked with students from Year 7 through to A Level, teaching English Language, English Literature and Media Studies across a variety of educational settings. I am passionate about helping learners develop their confidence, communication skills and academic potential, supporting them to achieve their goals and progress to the next stage of their education or career.

Sarah Billington

English Lecturer

I began my teaching career in 2019, delivering Creative Writing classes to adult learners and developing a passion for helping students build confidence through writing. After moving into Further Education at Southport College, I taught English Language and worked as a Progress Tutor, supporting students' academic and personal development. Since joining West Lancashire College in 2022 as an English Language teacher, I have supported learners from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. I enjoy making English accessible and engaging, helping students build confidence, develop their skills and realise their potential, while drawing on my Creative Writing background to encourage creativity and effective communication.

Gillian McGillveray

English Lecturer

I began my teaching career in 1988, initially specialising in Accounting before expanding into Mathematics teaching. Alongside my classroom experience, I owned and managed a Kumon Maths and English Tuition Centre in South Africa, supporting learners of all ages to develop strong numeracy and literacy skills. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about helping students achieve their academic potential and build confidence in their abilities.

Craig Lappin

English Lecturer

I started my career in Further Education and became Head of Humanities at a sixth form college in Hastings before moving into mainstream secondary education. I then worked as a Head of Department at an international school before relocating to the North West, where I have held a variety of roles focused on GCSE provision. Throughout my career, I have specialised in one-to-one mentoring, supporting students to re-engage with mainstream education and achieve their full potential.

Matthew Jankowski

Maths Lecturer

I have loved mathematics since I was young and have always had a keen interest in helping others appreciate the satisfaction of solving a difficult problem. This passion inspired me to become a teacher, and I have enjoyed every day of the profession since. My favourite part of the job is seeing those "light bulb" moments when students finally understand a topic that has challenged them. I strive to keep my lessons engaging and light-hearted, helping to change perceptions of mathematics and demonstrate that it can be both accessible and enjoyable.

Andrew Dowd

Maths Lecturer

I have worked at West Lancashire College since 2022. From an early age, I have had a strong interest in numbers and patterns, which inspired me to study Mathematics and ultimately achieve a Master's degree from Lancaster University. I have been teaching Mathematics for more than 10 years and am passionate about helping learners develop their numeracy, problem-solving, and analytical skills. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is seeing students grow in confidence, achieve their qualifications, and progress towards their personal, academic, and career goals.
