Counselling Skills Level 3Before enrolling on this course, I had already completed a Level 2 Counselling Skills qualification through another online provider, which I successfully passed. Building on that foundation, I wanted to further develop my studies and gain a deeper understanding of key counselling skills and principles. The course helped me expand my knowledge and provided valuable insight into the mindset of a counsellor, allowing me to think more deeply about how counselling skills can be applied in a wide range of situations. The learning experience has not only strengthened my understanding of the profession but has also equipped me with transferable skills that will benefit me in any future studies or career path I choose to pursue. Overall, the course has given me greater confidence in my abilities and has supported my ongoing personal and professional development.

Awareness of Mental Health Problems Level 2When I started the course, my goal was to develop a better understanding of mental health and wellbeing so that I could provide more effective support to others. I wanted to build my knowledge, increase my confidence when having conversations about mental health, and learn practical skills that I could use in both professional and volunteer settings. As the course was delivered through written online learning materials, I found the content easy to follow and was able to work through it at my own pace. The information was presented clearly, without being overly technical, which made the topics accessible and easy to understand. I felt the amount of content was well balanced, providing enough detail to develop my knowledge and understanding without becoming overwhelming. Overall, the course helped me gain a stronger understanding of mental health and wellbeing in a way that was engaging, practical and easy to digest, leaving me feeling more confident in supporting others.

Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Advocacy in the Workplace Level 2I work for Lancashire County Council as a Community Project Officer, supporting residents and helping communities grow social capital. I am also the thematic lead for mental health. To ensure I could fulfil my role effectively, I looked for relevant courses and found some that were free and online, so I enrolled. The process was straightforward, and the workbooks were easy to follow in bite-sized sections. I was assigned a tutor who provided feedback and kept me on track when I fell behind. Initially, I was hesitant about an online course, but I found that learning in shorter sessions was more effective than a full day of study. I would recommend West Lancashire College to anyone considering this pathway.
