19+ Bursary

Students with a household income of £32,300 or less who are enrolled on a course funded through the Adult Skills Fund or an Advanced Learner Loan.

• Travel support (If you meet the mileage criteria based on your household income and unable to access the college bus service) 
• Essential equipment and compulsory trip support 
• Access to a loaned laptop (Limited availability – allocated on a first come, first served basis) 
• Childcare support 

• Students must read the eligibility criteria prior to submitting an application. 

• Students must be fully enrolled on their 2026/27 course before they can access the PayMyStudent system at West Lancashire College Online Student Portal 

• New Students: 

• If you are a new student for 2026/27, you must complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) before submitting an application. (LINK for students to access: microsoft-mfa-guide-for-students.pdf) 

• MFA can be completed 6 hours after enrolment. 

• You must complete MFA before using “Sign in with Microsoft” or the system will not recognise your login. 

• Returning Students: 

• Login to PayMyStudent via the “Sign in with Microsoft” button. 

This support is available to students who live more than 2 or 3 miles away from campus, household income dependent. Support can be worth up to £5 per day. Please be aware if you have been referred or nominated to attend your course by Job Centre Plus, you are not eligible for travel support. We advise you to speak to Job Centre Plus to access any support that they can offer. 

You will be able to access to items that Course leaders have identified are essential to your study programme. Equipment will need to be returned on completion of your course. 

Some courses may also have compulsory trips designed to enhance your learning experience, you may have access to funding which supports you to attend these trips. 

If you are aged 20+, studying on an accredited pathway course and the legal guardian of a child who requires childcare whilst you study, you may be eligible to receive support towards your childcare costs to cover your timetable so that you can fully participate on your course. 

The childcare costs will be paid directly to the childcare provider, who would require an Ofsted Report, and be graded as ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’. 

Please be aware, if you have been referred or mandated to attend your course by Job Centre Plus, we cannot provide childcare support. If you are eligible to receive free childcare hours (15/30) you must use these in the first instance, any hours not covered we may be able to support.
