West Lancashire College recently welcomed Alison Cope, an anti-violence campaigner onto campus to speak with students about her experiences and life story. The sessions provided valuable learning and many reflection opportunities for students at the College.
The biggest trauma that Alison has faced is losing her son, Joshua, to a knife crime in 2013, in which she uses her resilience and strength to educate and support others in seeing a future beyond negative experiences. Her compelling story about her son, coupled with her unique ability to connect with young people, allows her to regularly visit schools, prisons and alternative education provisions nationally, reaching thousands of young people and changing lives.
Wendy Bennett, Assistant Principal of West Lancashire College said, “Welcoming Alison Cope into our college to work with our students has been of immense value. Her influential and deeply impactful anti-violence workshops created meaningful conversations, challenged perspectives and empowered our students with knowledge and empathy. The positive impact was felt across our whole college community and we are truly grateful for the insight and inspiration she shared with everyone.”
