West Lancashire College were delighted to welcome more than 900 school pupils and 500 college students to their annual Skills, Jobs and Careers Fair earlier this month. The event brought together over 50 companies and universities, all offering valuable careers advice and guidance to young people as part of the national Colleges Week initiative.

The event formed part of a wider programme of activities celebrating Colleges Week, an annual event held each March to highlight the impact of further education. Alongside local employers and universities exhibiting, the college’s curriculum teams organised a range of interactive have-a-go activities for the visitors. These included sessions in Beauty Therapy, Bricklaying, Hairdressing, Hospitality and Catering, Media Make-Up and Motor Vehicle, giving pupils and students the chance to experience different career pathways first-hand.

The college would like to thank the many employers and universities who generously gave their time to support the event. Attendees included Tate Liverpool, Ribble Riverside Trust, The Army, Liverpool Hope University, St Richard’s Catholic Primary School, Stuart Energy, Liverpool John Moores University, Birchwood Centre, Wella Hair, Shares Recruitment, Friends of Tawd Valley, The Department for Work and Pensions, Keepmoat Homes, HCRG Care Group, University of Lancashire, National Volunteer Police Cadets, NSG Ltd, We Are With You, Lancashire Health Visiting and School Nursing, Trudy Smith, Tropic Skincare, Serco, The Home Office, West Lancs Borough Council, NHS, Great Bear Distribution, ASDA Community, NSG Group, PepsiCo, University of Cumbria, Peel Ports, The AA, Matalan, Smokefree Lancashire, Edge Hill University, Bannatynes, Liverpool FC Foundation, Premier League Inspires, and many more.

Dawn Hughes, Events, Campaigns & School Liaison Manager said, “Our students and more than 900 local school pupils had a fantastic day exploring careers they may not have previously considered. They were able to discover the wide range of opportunities available to them both now and in the future. The success of events like this is thanks to our amazing employer partners who give up their time to inspire the next generation. Opportunities like this simply wouldn’t be possible without their continued support.”
