West Lancashire College held a Year 12 Extended Project Qualification event, where a small group of students presented their EPQ to an audience.

All involved worked extremely hard to develop research projects on topics that are of particular interest to themselves or are of personal relevant. To say we are proud is an understatement, as the students have produced very insightful and profound research that answers a variety of medical issues.

We would like to thank you for attending and showing your support.

The student project titles are:

  • Sickle cell disease: to what extent has institutional racism affected research progression and administration of treatment?
  • How does gender bias play a part in the misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment of women in cardiology?
  • Do medical health professionals believe that treatment should be withheld from those clinically defined as obese?
  • Alcohol Septal Ablation and Septal Myectomy: assessing the risks and benefits of treatments for Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy
  • To what extent do menopausal women do not disclose of this period of life due to being gaslighted by medical professionals?
  • To what extent do enquiries into the systematic failings of the care provided by the NHS fail to produce the recommended changes (in the following 10 years)?”
  • To what extent is OCD misrepresented through popular tv shows in modern day society?
  • To what extent are procedures that increase the activity of the MAOA gene feasible for preventing antisocial personality disorder?
  • As society has changed and modernised throughout History, what are the key factors that have affected the uses and views on anaesthesia in regard to patient care?”
