Second-year Carpentry and Joinery students Finley, Elliott and Kyle have brought a touch of time-travelling magic to West Lancashire College with the creation of a replica TARDIS, built entirely from pine and plywood. The impressive structure was constructed over several weeks, showcasing the skills the students have developed throughout their studies at the College.

Once the build was complete, first-year students Leo, Lennon, Josh, and Brandon helped to finish the piece by painting it in the well-known Scotland Yard blue, before it was moved into the College’s Atrium to be enjoyed by everyone.

The TARDIS was created with a clear purpose: to serve as a unique and engaging bookcase for staff and students to pick up a book, exchange one, or donate their own. This provided the perfect opportunity to offer a fun and imaginative way to encourage reading throughout the campus.

Amanda Maddocks, Head of Construction at West Lancashire College said, “Our students have pushed their creativity and technical ability to new heights with this project. Building the TARDIS was no small task, and they approached it with enthusiasm, professionalism, and real passion. It’s an incredible achievement, and one the whole College can enjoy for years to come.”

This collaborative project highlights the creativity, teamwork and technical skill within the Carpentry and Joinery department, and the College is thrilled to showcase the students’ hard work in such an iconic form.
