Fees and Finance

Our Learner Services team can provide you with information and advice on course fees (if applicable), the cost of study, exams and registrations fees, childcare and any financial help that may be available.

What will I pay?

Many of our courses are funded or have no upfront costs. The cost of your course depends on your individual

16-19 Tuition Fund

West Lancashire College has received funding to support catch-up tuition to support a small group of students who have been disrupted by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Students will be offered a range of support, which you can find in the NCG 16-18 Tuition Fund Statement.

Advanced Learner Loans

If you are a student over the age of 19 and are wanting to study a Level 3 or Level 4 course, an Access To Higher Education course or an Apprenticeship, but with no upfront costs? You may be entitled to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Level 3 Entitlement

If you are aged 19-23 and don't already hold a full Level 3 qualification, we have information about Entitlement.

Care 2 Learn

Students under the age of 20 who have childcare responsibilities can apply to Care 2 Learn for assistance will receive childcare costs.

Studying whilst on benefits

A number of students will be attending college, whilst claiming a benefit. The rules and regulations about benefits and the college are often difficult to follow and change regularly.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of studying whilst claiming benefits, please speak with our Learner Services team to make an appointment to see a member of staff who is experienced in dealing with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Learner Support Fund

The Learner Support Fund is a government initiative to help students stay in college. The fund assists with the purchase of essential equipment, travel, childcare and many other essential student costs.

Adult Funding Changes

Due to changes in the government funding, from the 1st of August 2019, students who resident in certain postcodes in Merseyside and Greater Manchester, may be unable to access funding from training providers and colleges in Lancashire.

This means students may have to pay all associated course and support costs.

To check if your postcode is part of the new devolved funding legislation, please contact our Course Enquiries for further advice.

Please note that this does not include courses that are paid for by Advanced Learner Loans.

Fee Refunds

If the college has to cancel a course, the college will credit the fee and refund any fee payment to the student. If the student agrees to an appropriate alternative course, then the original fee payment would be credited against the new alternative course.

Students may apply to the college for a refund or a partial refund of tuition fees, if there are extenuating circumstances.

EU Settlement Scheme

Funding for Further Education courses has changed post-Brexit.

The EU Settlement Scheme is designed to offer EU, EEA and Swiss nationals and their eligible family members living in the UK, the opportunity to protect their residence and travel rights in the UK.

The application is free and the process is straight forward.

EU nationals living in the UK before the 31st of December 2020 are eligible for settled or pre-settled status.

If you are an EU/EEA/Swiss national living in the UK and wish to study at West Lancashire College, you will be required to prove your settled or pre-settled status by sharing your digital status document with the college.

You can request a share code on the government Prove Immigration Status page. Please bring this code with you to enrolment.
