West Lancashire College are proud to support Care Leavers Month throughout November, with an empowering theme of ‘Rising as me: Overcoming challenges, transforming and finding your identity.’
Care Leavers Month aims to celebrate the individuality and resilience of care leavers, build confidence and practical skills for education, employment and life, promote wellbeing, self-care and positive mental health, as well as foster a sense of community, trust and belonging.
West Lancashire College create spaces and opportunities where all care experienced and estranged students can feel valued, supported and inspired to reach their goals. The college have been supported by Lancashire Virtual School and The Birchwood Centre, who tackle homelessness and mental health issues.
The college were also joined by Lilly Morris, Care Leavers Covenant Participation Co-ordinator, to ensure that each part of the month would reflect the voices, experiences and aspirations of care leavers. Lilly’s invaluable input has provided support to shape activities that inspired a sense of pride, growth and belonging.
Julie-Ann Halliwell, the Safeguarding Co-ordinator and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead at West Lancashire College said, “This month is about recognising every student who has been in the care system and their individual journey; their strength, growth and the incredible things they achieve and overcome every day.
We would like to express our thanks to ASDA Skelmersdale, who kindly contributed items to help create our self-care packs, which offer care leavers with practical resources to support with their wellbeing.”
