Supported Internship students at West Lancashire College celebrated last night at a presentation event, where they were joined by local employers including West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group and Well Skelmersdale, their parents, family, and friends, and The Mayor of West Lancashire, Cllr Gordon Johnson.
The Legacy Project Supported Internship Programme is a supported employment scheme for young people living or studying in Skelmersdale with additional needs and is designed to offer improved chances in relation to the world of work.
Students on the programme attend a substantial work placement for up to four days per week where they develop skills required by employers, plus one day at West Lancashire College where they study a preparation for work qualification and build upon their maths and English skills.
Jane Kasper, Inclusive Learning Support Manager at West Lancashire College said, “we were delighted to welcome so many employers, family and friends to our celebration last night, and it was amazing to hear the journey of each individual student who have made such great progression during their time on the Supported Internship. I would like to thank our employer partners, who we could not deliver the programme without, and of course The Mayor of West Lancashire, Cllr Gordon Johnson for attending our celebration.”
Work placements for the programme are sourced by Divine Days who are always looking to extend the range of employers available to the Supported Interns.
