Prince's Trust

Course Overview

Prince’s Trust Teams are made up of around 12 young people who together take on community projects, go on a week's residential, do two weeks' work experience, put together their CVs and start job searching, as well as learning new skills. They're supported along the way by experienced and friendly staff who have lots of experience.

The course is for anyone aged 16-25 who are unemployed and looking for a challenge.

Course Content

Team is a free 12-week programme of personal development and training. The programme helps young people to rebuild their self-esteem.

Participants are encouraged to think about their futures and prepare a post-programme development plan.

During the 12 weeks, participants: Gain nationally recognised qualifications – City & Guilds Certificate in Personal, Teamwork and Community Skills and Functional Skills Units, Spend a week away from home on a team building residential, Uncover hidden talents, Improve motivation and self-confidence, Assume some responsibility, Develop team working and communication skills, Raise their awareness of their local community and how they can contribute to it.

The Team Programme:
Week 1 – Induction, planning and target setting.
Week 2 – Team building residential.
Week 3 – Preparation for Community Projects.
Weeks 4-5 – Major Community project.
Week 6 – Minor Community project(s).
Week 7 – Work Placement.
Week 8 – Next Steps.
Week 9 – Preparation for Final Team Challenge.
Week 10 – Final Team Challenge.
Week 11 – Final review, presentation and action planning.

Entry Requirements

Young people aged 16-25 who are unemployed, including New Deal participants are eligible to join a Team. Participants must have enthusiasm and 100% commitment to succeed. Students must be ready for a challenge both personally and as a team. Teams may also include employed people who get involved through their employer.

Learning & Assessment Methods

The course is assessed continually via written and practical projects – in all environments.

Qualifications Gained

Level 1 Certificate in Personal, Teamwork and Community Skills.

Progression Opportunities

Successful completion of the course will provide access to full-time education and potentially employment.

Career Opportunities

The Prince’s Trust project will improve your chances of gaining employment and be an excellent addition to your CV.

Costs

The course is free and does not affect unemployment benefit.
