Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools Level 2 NCFE (FFL2)
Course OverviewThis course is designed to provide a relevant qualification for people who are working as a classroom assistant, or for those working in a voluntary capacity in a classroom situation. It is also open to those who have no previous relevant experience, but who wish to train as teaching assistants.
This qualification prepares learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required for employment as a Level 2 Teaching Assistant.

Course ContentThe course consists of 11 Units:
- Child & young person development
- Safeguarding the welfare of children & young people
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- Equality, Diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
- Schools as Organisations
- Help improve own and team practice in schools
- Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
- Support children and young people's health and safety
- Support children and young people's positive behaviour
- Support learning activities
- Support children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs
The course requires learners to complete a suitable placement within a school, working with children ages 4+ (Year 1 and above).
Entry RequirementsLevel 2 English (GCSE Grade C or above) and preferably Mathematics if not must be willing to work towards achieving this during the course.
Must be employed within a school as a teaching assistant or undertake a voluntary work placement in a school for a minimum of 6 hours per week.
All candidates will be required to attend an interview with the tutor prior to/during enrolment.
A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formally CRB checks).
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Learning & Assessment Methods
Continuously assessed through coursework/assignments and portfolio, in addition to some assessments in the work placement.
Qualifications GainedNCFE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
Level 2 Mathematics, if required.
Progression OpportunitiesLearners may wish to progress onto the NCFE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or gain employment in a school as a Level 1 or Level 2 Teaching Assistant.
